The glitch in the catalogue

The Gold Bar Rush was a glitch that occurred throughout August 2012 concerning the Credit Furni prices of Gold Bars. Sulake had recently started introducing the ability for people to purchase "Bulk-Buy Deals" from the Catalogue for all Furniture items, but accidentally enabled this option also for the items in the Credit Furni. Because of this, users could purchase high quantites of Gold Bars without being charged the correct price, since they would receive a discount for the deal - for example, purchasing nine Gold Bars should normally cost 459c, but instead cost 408c due to the discount. As every 12 Gold Bars purchased would essentially be giving the user three more for free based on the price, this allowed users to obtain potentially thousands of Gold Bars for free.

As this occurred, the prices of various Rares such as the Throne and Petal Patch began to rise on account of inflation, thus making the entire rare-value market unstable. This is most likely what attracted the attention of Sulake Staff on the 9th August, who acted upon the issue by initially disabling all trade from the hotel, then disabling purchases from the catalogue and finally distributing a one month ban to any user who had potentially exploited the glitch regardless if knowingly or not.

Whilst users were having their accounts investigated, Sulake Staff removed the appropriate number of Gold Bars from their account which they had gained for free. This had to be done twice since Sulake originally calculated the amount gained incorrectly, as they didn't account for the Credit Tax. Consequently, users were banned for much longer than expected and were not unbanned until the 29th August, by which time the Habbo economy had stabilised back to a normal state.

The glitch was one of the most controversial in terms of acquiring free Credits, with the Splash Plastic being one other, and it was fixed on the day that it was noticed by Sulake. A post on the Habbo Help website regarding the Gold Bar Rush is still accessible, albeit no longer on the website.
