The (Dutch) moderator protest was a protest organised by a small group of Habbo players that took place on 1st May 2011.

Prior to the protest

Months in advance, leaks had shown the by then moderators of Habbo would be fired on 1st May 2011. They would be replaced by cheaper, Costa Rican moderators.

As some players who got to know about these plans considered it a rather disrespectful move from Habbo regarding all hard work the moderators had delivered, a Habbo group had been created in order to spread awareness about the protest. Habbos were being informed by other players in various ways; they were being addressed through their guest books, posts about it were created on other forums and initiators visited rooms to tell others about the event.

The protest itself

The protest was organised in the second room of Club Massiva. This room could be entered by walking upstairs in the first room of the club. Although the public rooms were usually limited to a specific amount of people being allowed into the room, the second room of Club Massiva did not have this certain limitation. The room could take up as many players as possible which allowed the event to turn out as hugely as it actually did.

Some of the moderators being fired that day attended the protest in order to stand with the Habbos protesting against the moderator's their dismissal. The moderators answered some questions from the players and confirmed they would lose their job that month. No people being responsible for the dismissals attended the protest.

Players were found spamming the room saying things which did go against the Habbo Way and dressing up all the same in order to make a stand against the decisions Habbo made.

Aftermath

Directly after the protest, the organisers of the protest stated they were surprised about the huge interest the event had gained among many players. Habbo Staff have never replied to the event in any way imaginable which eventually caused more frustration and anger among some of the protestors.

As time passed by and the new moderators seemed to do their job well according to most people, the outcome of the event was considered useless and the event itself became forgotten. The protest went down in history as the biggest which had ever taken place in the Dutch Habbo hotel.
