The Ethereal Hair is a Limited Edition Rare that came out on the 27 March 2024. The ears have been created as a separate Clothing item from the hair, meaning upon binding this furni, a user can make use of 2 pieces of clothing.
On release, the Ethereal Hair was placed in the catalogue as though it were a regular Rare item rather as a Limited Edition, meaning the item wouldn't come with its own LTD number. This was a mistake from Habbo's side on all regional hotels, and the catalogue was updated ~9 minutes after its release to remove the Ethereal Hair from the shop. A similar event had happened previously in 2014 with the Maw-Sit-Sit Egg (Green), but marked the first time for a Rare Clothing LTD, with potential ramifications for lost "desirable" numbers if users had already bound the clothing.
In a Twitter statement about the release mistake[1] it was noted that once the LTD numbers were fixed in the database (later confirmed to have been done by randomly assigning numbers to each user ID that had made a purchase) "the rest" would be made available to purchase at a later date. This prompted speculation as to whether the number sold in the opening 9 minutes was particularly low or whether the intended capacity would be very high, as it suggests that the capacity (had one been set) would not have been reached. The total available for .com was later made clear as 450.
The next day, a further statement was posted[2] noting that the Ethereal Hair would go back on sale on 02 April for the "remaining supply", with a list of the amount still available to purchase across each hotel. Those already sold had by this point been manually assigned random numbers, and it was confirmed through viewing the MarketPlace that #1 (generally the most sought-after LTD number) had been assigned.
On 2 April 2024, the Ethereal Hair was made available for sale once again, accompanied by a countdown displayed a day prior to its re-release. However, when the countdown reached its end, players found themselves unable to purchase the rare item as its category was not visible in the shop, nor was the item itself. This issue was promptly resolved within less than 10 minutes after the unsuccessful re-release, marking this event as one of the most challenging release scenarios to date for this rare.
At release this was the most expensive rare ever sold on Habbo, taking the lead from the Angel Wings by 50 Credits and 130 Diamonds. The rise in price could be seen as a strategic move by Habbo in response to the aftermath of the e-prepag exploit on the Brazilian hotel. In this incident, users inadvertently acquired an excess of Credits and Diamonds by purchasing pre-paid vouchers from the e-prepag store for R$20 (~$4 USD), receiving 2000 Credits and Diamonds instead of the intended 53 of each. Despite this, Habbo chose not to intervene, permitting users who had obtained Credits during this period to maintain their surplus balance. This circumstance may also elucidate why the Ethereal Hair was sold out exclusively on the Brazilian hotel.
