The Black Dino Egg was released on the 7th April 2012 and has been one of the most popular rares whilst Habbo has been releasing Limited Edition Rares. Not only did it appear as a recolour of the popular Dragon Egg on Habbo, it also looked appropriate in different themed rooms such as Casinos, before the Gambling Ban and pet rooms. Most players were heavily anticipating its release, yet did not know when to check for it in the Catalogue as its release was a surprise.
Unfortunately, Habbo decided to release it later in the BST time zone on the same day as the Executive Drinks Cabinet which caused complaints as other players, such as those in Australian time zones, were sleeping. As the anticipation for the rare to come out was notable Habbo decided to put the price at 200 Credits knowing that they would sell out quickly. Only 1000 were released overall. It was the first of the Limited Edition Rares to offer a badge with it, later copied when the Darkstar Dragons rare was released.
The amount went down quickly as the entire stock was sold within 15 minutes and, in addition to that, players who were unable to buy one directly from the Catalogue were then offering 250 Credits, giving instant profit to the original owners.
The motto of the Black Dino Egg is 'Limited Edition Rare. What's Easter without eggs?' due to it being released for the Easter holidays.
